The Omega Home Network is a non-profit national membership organization that promotes the development and expansion of community homes for dying people. Through information sharing, consultation and educational offerings, we provide direct assistance to those developing and operating homes in their communities.

Health care for the homeless population is a complex challenge and represents a significant gap in care, particularly for those at the end of life. Hospice care may be desired but is rarely an option for people without residences, social support, and payment sources. Social model hospice is a unique paradigm of care delivery that offers a viable solution to make hospice and palliative care possible for this population.

The National Institute for Medical Respite Care (NIMRC) and the Respite Care Providers Network (RCPN) published the newly revised Standards for Medical Respite Care Programs, a guiding framework to help medical respite care programs operate safely, effectively, and seamlessly with local health care systems, and to promote program development and growth.

Medical Respite 

The National Health Care for the Homeless Council (NHCHC) operates the National Institute for Medical Respite Care (NIMRC) and the Respite Care Providers Network (RCPN).

Medical respite care is acute and post-acute care for people experiencing homelessness who are too ill to recover from an illness or injury on the streets or in a shelter, but who do not require hospital-level care. Some medical respite programs accept terminally ill clients.

The National Alliance to End Homelessness is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization whose sole purpose is to end homelessness in the United States. They use research and data to find solutions to homelessness, work with federal and local partners to create a solid base of policy and resources that support those solutions, and help communities implement them.

 

Their free How to Advocate to Your Lawmaker course includes videos featuring real advocates talking about their own experiences and strategies and guides to help you prepare for meeting with your lawmaker.
